Commer Cob light Van 1960
Very rare sight on our roads today and this truly stunning little Commer Cob van is a little beauty and such a refreshing change from the more common offerings that we see so. widely available. Fascinating history as she appears to have spent most of its life as a chimney sweeps van, so has obviously not been subject to mega heavy loads as one can clearly see from the nicely preserved flat flooring and side panels in the back
Now for the big bonus with this van as the front section of the floor will lift up and form an extra bench seat for two people, so really is a dual purpose vehicle when needed. I seem to remember many were converted with windows in there day due to the commercial tax that was applied to vans - so making Cob vans are very rare indeed
Restored really well a few years ago and has formed part of a private collection of small commercials since. Typical of Rootes vehicles very smooth and quite to drive -and provides a good turn of speed on the open road from its 1400cc engine. Radial tyres all round provide good road holding, and the brakes have a reassuring feel when the pedal is needed.
Finished in light grey with all new red upholstery and black carpets. Chrome is all perfect on the van and the period extra sun visor is a nice touch but could be removed if one wanted to. As you see from the photos it is not sign written so there’s a blank canvas for the new owner, and I would prefer if it stayed like that. She comes with a Coventry Transport Museum Certificate of vehicle authenticity, original Cob sales brochure and owners handbook, plus a very tasty four number two letter registration plate.
